The Water Culture Hydroponic System

Water Culture Hydroponics

The water culture hydroponic system is probably the most basic of all hydroponic systems. Unless you intend to grow a very fast growing and water loving plant you most likely won’t want to use a water culture system but I will briefly explain how it works for you here. In this system your plants reside on a platform that floats in the nutrient and water solution. The platform must float and still be decently sturdy so most growers build their platforms out of Styrofoam or something similar. An air pump / air stone is needed to disturb the nutrient solution and bring oxygen to the plants roots. Most of the people using a water culture system are using it for very fast growing plants and vegetables such as lettuce. For the average indoor grower or home gardener you can try out a water culture setup by
buying nice high-quality equipment and easily assemble your own or if you have a tight budget you could build your own out of an aquarium or cooler with a little extra effort. If you decide to try out a water culture hydroponic system yourself, make sure whatever you build it out of that it is WATER TIGHT! Test it outside first to make sure it does not leak.
